Whether you are a leader interested in embedding workplace well-being into the organisation’s culture or an employee looking to develop tools and techniques to deal with stress and build resilience, then this course is for you. 

This workplace wellbeing course gives learners an increased understanding of what wellbeing in the workplace means and helps them adopt simple strategies to take care of their health and wellbeing while at work.

What is workplace wellbeing?

Workplace well-being or corporate well-being simply put is feeling good about yourself, your surroundings and life in general. It promotes a sense of purpose, satisfaction, and control. 

Well-being combines one’s physical, mental, social, and emotional well-being. 

Under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005, the standard duty of care places  an obligation on your business to do everything ‘that is reasonably practicable’ to protect the mental and physical well-being of your employees. 

Mental health affects physical health and vice versa. Other obligations include supporting employees but not putting them at risk, always acting in the interest of the employee and harnessing a safe place to work. 

Why is wellbeing important in the workplace?

Wellbeing initiatives in the workplace can support the building of relationships, reduce stress, creates a more positive environment and leads to increased productivity. It can help with absenteeism and attrition. Employees become more loyal and less likely to leave. Some wellbeing initiatives put into action are Step challenges or walking events, wellness newsletters, flexible working, international days, and wellness webinars.

How to promote mental health and wellbeing in the workplace?

Before you do anything, ask your employees what would they like to see included in your wellness strategy. Create a committee made up of well-being champions from different areas of the business. If your employees are involved from the start, it becomes their strategy and the more likely you will buy into the different initiatives you run. 

Communication is key when promoting well-being initiatives – use social platforms, flyers, notice boards and of course those ambassadors driving your strategy. You also may want to incentivise to increase participation rates. 

But remember keep going, if an event is a failure, get up and try again!
